Course Goal: The goal of this course is to provide basic understanding of the physics behind infrared thermography. The course will address what the technology can do – and what it can’t. It is designed to be a hybrid between a Level 1 and Level II course. LI certification courses tend to focus on the qualitative aspects of thermography, while LII covers the quantitative aspects.

The theoretical concepts behind infrared temperature measurement like proper focus and emissivity settings are illustrated by hands-on use of the FLIR cameras. So all participants should also bring their camera and a notebook loaded with the FLIR image analysis software.

After completing the course, participants will have the tools to go out and conduct IR inspections at their facility.

This is a two day hands-on thermography training covering some of the basic principles of IR thermography based on American Society for Non-destructive Testing (ASNT) guidelines. , together with time spent using their camera and the FLIR software. This course will provide a general overview of the physics of IR temperature measurement and concepts like emissivity, transmissivity, and field-of-view. Attendees will be comfortable using their FLIR camera and downloading/analyzing images with the FLIR imaging software.
