Video Introduction to Push Cameras

What is a Push Camera? What are its main parts? How does it work? This short 2 minute video presented by Atlas Inspection Technologies’ President Darren Billings, answers these questions and also provides basic care and use instructions in a clear and easy to follow format.

What is a Push Camera

A push camera system is a camera assembly with embedded led lights, typically an ultra sonic sonde transmitter, a semi rigid push cable, a reel with a distance counter, and command module with video display and capture capability. Optionally you can use an above ground locator to receive the sonde transmissions which can enable you to locate the position of the camera below ground.

Push Camera Tutorial

For complete operating and maintenance guidelines always refer to the operator’s manual. Plan on beginning your use of the push camera system with an inspection of the equipment and its components. Push camera and pipe cameras are submersible in water and have different depth ratings depending on the unit. Contact Atlas Inspection Technologies or refer to the owner’s manual for the specific depth rating on your unit. Familiarize yourself with the use of the camera prior to insertion. Be sure to know how to lock and unlock the reel, reset the distance counter and note the focal range of the camera.

Avoiding Push Camera Repairs

Avoid repairs to any push or pipe camera by avoiding kinking the push rod and avoid impact to the camera head. Do not put the insertion tube into corrosive chemicals and hot environments. Identify the specific temperature limits in the operator’s manual. Take care to plan your inspection and give thought to removing the system. Accessories for centering the camera in pipe are available on most systems. Intrinsically safe and explosion proof camera systems are available upon request.
